We are pleased to announce that Turkchem Eurasia, one of the largest gatherings in the chemical industry with billions of dollars in trade volume worldwide, has once again concluded successfully this year, with the sector's intense interest. For the 7th consecutive year, the chemical industry has been the export leader in our country.
The exhibition, organized by Artkim Fuarcılık, which plays a significant role in the growth of the Turkish Chemical Industry through numerous national and international projects, took place at the Istanbul Expo Center and featured 306 companies. A total of 12,075 visitors from 88 countries, including 2,131 international visitors, attended the event.
Turkchem Eurasia, the 9th International Chemical Industry Exhibition, known as a meeting point for domestic and international industry professionals with the motto "Everything About Chemistry," and one of the world's leading chemical industry events, was held simultaneously with the 5th Interdye & Textile Printing Eurasia, bringing together all stakeholders of the chemical and textile industries in Istanbul.
The Interdye & Textile Printing Eurasia provided participating companies with opportunities to "develop textile finishing, dyeing, and printing solutions" in the Eurasian region, bring together the best in the industry, strengthen existing relationships, and establish new commercial connections. The exhibition saw the participation of 97 companies and a total of 6,577 visitors, including 1,268 international visitors.
In his opening speech at the exhibition, Artkim Executive Board Chairman Cengiz Yaman expressed his satisfaction with the high level of interest they received. He stated, "We embarked on this journey 20 years ago with the aim of serving the chemical sector, which is at the heart of Turkish industry. Today, we are moving forward with the goal of making our country a global brand in the field of specialized exhibition. Through the specialized exhibitions we organize, we contribute to the opening of sector stakeholders to international markets and the development of exports. In line with this, our buyer delegation program will also be active at Turkchem Eurasia 2022. The buyer delegation program, designed to promote the export-oriented products of companies and increase foreign trade momentum towards target markets and countries, will offer significant potential to participating companies, just as it did in previous exhibition."
"Chemistry sector is at the forefront in all developed countries"
Adil Pelister, Chairman of the Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products Exporters' Association (İKMİB), emphasized the importance of the development of the chemical sector for Turkey, stating, "The chemical sector, with its 16 sub-sectors, is a main sector that supports 27 different sub-sectors. We see that the chemical sector is among the most important sectors in all developed countries. Our sector grew by 37.1% in the first 10 months of this year and achieved $28.1 billion in exports. To maintain our successes, it is crucial to address the increase in energy costs. During this period, ensuring easy access to financing and cash flow, and creating a predictable environment, will further enhance our competitiveness. We expect increased support for our exporters in this direction. Despite everything, we will continue working to reach our $50 billion export target by 2030."
"We have a production volume of $80 billion in textiles"
Vehbi Canpolat, President of the Turkish Textile Finishing Industrialists' Association (TTTSD) and a Board Member of the Istanbul Chamber of Industry (İSO), stated that dyes and chemicals form the main inputs of the textile sector. He said, "Our country is currently one of the top 5 textile-producing countries in the world. If we all fulfill our responsibilities, our country will enter the top 3 in the textile sector." He highlighted that the Textile Finishing sector, in which Turkey is strongest with 600 companies, produces the world's finest fabrics. Canpolat added that Turkey is the best country in finishing cotton and viscose groups. He concluded, "As a sector, we will work together to reach even better places. Textile dyeing is being taught in India and China; we can easily do this in Turkey. This should be our biggest goal."
"Improving the investment environment is crucial to reduce dependency on foreign countries"
Timur Erk, President of the TOBB Chemical Industry Assembly, said, "There is a very open market for development in the global chemical industry. It is predicted that a new chemical market, which will triple in size over the next thirty years, will emerge. To take a share from this market as Turkey and to free the Turkish chemical industry from dependence on imports, improving the investment environment to reduce reliance on foreign countries is crucial."
Haluk Erceber, President of the Turkish Chemical Manufacturers Association, highlighted that Turkey has a domestic market worth 63 billion euros, which is among the few examples worldwide. He said that according to the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM), the Turkish chemical sector achieved around $20 billion in exports in the first 10 months of this year, with year-end exports expected to reach $25-26 billion, but imports are also expected to be around $52-53 billion by the end of the year.
Erceber continued, "The largest part of exports to Europe comes from the chemical industry. The EU sells 11.7 billion euros worth of raw materials to Turkey. The main problem is the dependency on foreign countries in the supply chain. Since raw materials are obtained through imports, this is our weak point."
Participants and visitors can access all innovations and developments in "chemical industry, textile finishing, dyeing, and printing solutions" showcased at the Turkchem Eurasia and Interdye & Textile Printing Eurasia, held from November 24-26, 2022, on the Virtual Exhibition platform for three months.
